This service is designed to assist veterinarians in the management of veterinary dermatologic cases where direct referral may be difficult.
About the Service
Since Animal Dermatology & Allergy opened in 1996, Dr. Cannon has received numerous suggestions from her referring veterinarians that she establish a service by which a veterinarian could request a formal case consultation for those clients that might have difficulty coming to the dermatology clinic directly. The reasons for this are varied but are usually centered around the client's inability to travel, time concerns etc. Regardless of the reason, this service allows the referring vet to manage the case "in house" while utilizing the most current dermatologic learnings.
It is important to note that this service is a consultation only. The primary client/patient relationship remains with you, the general veterinarian. Communication from Dr. Cannon is always with the general veterinarian, not the client. Communication is solely by email or fax. Photos are sent by email. This keeps our costs down and maintains your relationship with your client. The cost for the service is $70 per consultation/client.
In general, we have designed the cost structure to accomodate 1-3 "back and forth" emails in order to set the course for diagnosis and treatment. It is not designed to manage the case on an ongoing basis. If more intensive consultation is required, direct referral may be more appropriate.
